Stéphanie Frappart, the revival of feminism
Today, there are many feminist figures in various fields. There are many in sport
Start of Stéphanie Frappart
Stéphanie Frappart was born on 14 December 1983. During her youth, she plays football in AS Herblay. She will even gradually move towards arbitration. She referees her first amateur match at 19 years old. Her fame will quickly grow as she will referee a women's D1 match in 2003, at the age of 20. Stéphanie will referee these matches until 2014 where she will become the first women to referee a professional match man’s football. She will after referee on the field of women’s World cup 2015, The Olympics Games and Women’s Euro 2017.
But it’s only in April 2019 that referee a man’s football match of ligue 1. She became so the first women to make this. After this match, she will referee several high-level men's matches such as the 2019 UEFA Supercup and Champions League matches. She will even be voted best women referee in the world by the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) in 2019 and 2020
A figure of modern feminism
Today the name of Stéphanie Frappart speaks to many people. She’s even the only woman to make a living from her profession. But Stéphanie Frappart isn’t arrived here at random. She doesn’t consider feminism.
“ I have shown that I am not an alibi for the women's cause but that I am here for my skills. ”
Stéphanie isn’t women that who will milliter in the street or on the social medias. But she incarnates the modern feminism. That is, it is put forward to promote the values of feminism.
A criticized figure
Stéphanie had a complicated start. During an interview, she says that when she was younger “my mother had to walk around the stadium so as not to hear too much about me”. Thanks to these criticisms, she was able to build up a mindset so that she would not be affected by them. Her relatives and colleagues affirm that it’s a fighter because she evolves in a world of “men andmisogynists”. She remains today even very criticized by the football amateur.
The backwardness of women's sport
A that time, in France, the women football isn’t very developed. We can see this in Stephanie's statements. She stopped her career because of this. So, we can imagine that it’s not the only one. This information can therefore be found in the fields because the French football isn’t world top level.
We can see again inequality between the men's and women's sport. For example, recently, during the Paris-Roubaix,cycling event, the organizers paid different premiums for the man and women winners. The premium for
the women winner was 20 times lower than the men winner.
So, the sport is next step for feminism because this environment remains highly unequal.
